The Swiss IT forum(s) 2024 was held on 26 and 27 September at Palexpo (Geneva). It’s a major event in Geneva where companies come to present their business and IT solutions, and this year the digital transition and AI were the subjects in the spotlight. In this article, I’m going to share with you some of the conferences I had the pleasure of attending.

Software, often seen as immaterial, may seem to have no direct environmental impact. However, the growing inefficiency of software, known as “bloatware,” significantly contributes to hardware over-consumption and the escalating carbon footprint of the digital industry. In 2019, digital technology accounted for nearly double the greenhouse gas emissions of the air transport industry, with most impacts tied to the 34 billion digital devices owned by users. The solution lies in adopting eco-design practices, which could reduce environmental impact, offer competitive advantages, and help businesses comply with emerging regulations.
